Is it possible to capture the colors of laughter? Virginia artist Carolyn Schallmo blends a deft sense of color with a child-like sense of humor to create a wide range of alluring works that tickle the fancy and invite a second or third look to take it all in. From her own lively line of greeting cards to delightful paintings and gorgeous full wall murals, Schallmo infuses her art with her own bubbly personality.

"I try to celebrate the simple things in life that we don't always acknowledge," she says. "I love that there is beauty, humor and brilliance hiding in the in smallest of places. My paintings incorporate that so you'll be inspired to take a second look."

In keeping with the idea of simplicity, illustrating "The Naked Portfolio Manager" seemed a logical choice. "The concepts and ideas to be communicated by the author were so simple and apparent to me. We are so intimidated by that which appears to be overwhelming, we will hand the job off to anyone who seems to have wisdom in the field. It's all an illusion. Taking the magic wizard out of the equation brings that message home and it was truly fun to illustrate!"
